pd|hub & CIMER launch the Mentorship Action Collaborative with in-person Summit at UMass Chan

pd|hub and CIMER were delighted to host the pd|hub Mentorship Action Collaborative Summit on June 11-12 at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts. The goal of the pd|hub Mentorship Action Collaborative is to leverage the perspectives and expertise of the community to curate, develop, test, and disseminate a collection of new evidence-based resources to support productive career conversations in mentoring relationships. This 2-day convening brought together over 50 participants representing a broad cross-section of the biomedical research training community, including career development professionals; deans, provosts, and other institutional administrators; graduate students; mentorship education facilitators or program leaders; national organizations, funders, or consortia; postdoctoral scholars; research mentors and training program directors. Together, participants explored opportunities to strengthen career-related mentorship and collaboratively identified actions and ideas for future resource development. Leading up to the Summit, participants engaged in four pre-Summit virtual events designed to establish a shared understanding of language and core career development frameworks, foster relationships through small group conversations, and generate ideas for future consideration. Through the Summit series, participants followed a systems analysis protocol to identify forces that inhibit or enable career-related mentorship, providing a foundation for understanding context and grounding ideation.

As this project moves into its next phase, we are still seeking individuals interested in contributing their perspectives and experiences to this project. Our team will continue to engage with the community through focus groups this fall and subsequent Development Teams to help build resources, curricula, and tools to advance career-related mentorship.
