The American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization with a mission to advance biochemistry and molecular biology. The idea for pd|hub emerged from a 2016 ASBMB Summit on Sustaining the Biomedical Research Enterprise, and ASBMB provided seed funding for the research and planning phases of this initiative.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund is an independent private foundation dedicated to advancing the biomedical sciences by supporting research and other scientific and educational activities, including helping early career scientists. The BWF has supported the planning and pilot phase of this initiative.

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)'s Innovative Programs to Enhance Research Training program supports creative and innovative research educational activities to create a highly skilled and diverse biomedical workforce. The pd|hub Collections are supported by NIGMS of the National Institutes of Health under award number R25GM139076.
