Open-Access Resources from Scientific Societies to Support STEMM Professional Development
Disciplinary societies offer resources to support scientists in their career and professional development--including many resources that are open-access and cross career stage, discipline, and career goals. This resource highlights open-access materials from members of the pd|hub Scientific Societies Group designed to support, engage, and promote the success of early-, mid-, and later-stage scientists as they pursue their career goals.
Developed jointly by the pd|hub Scientific Societies Group and pd|hub, this resource responds to the need for accessible tools that help scientists explore career options, strengthen professional skills, advance as leaders, and connect with supportive communities.

Who Can Benefit from this Resource?
- Students and postdocs exploring careers and building a network
For example, students and postdocs can use In Their Elements from ACS to connect with career professionals, explore potential career paths, and expand their mentor networks; access job postings through the APS, ASBMB, or SACNAS career centers; or attend the ABRCMS professional development conference hosted by ASM. - Advisors mentoring students and postdocs in their career development
Career advisors, practitioners, and faculty can connect students and postdocs to scientific society resources to explore career options and professional development opportunities, or find resources to highlight for trainees in particular disciplines. - Those navigating a mid-career transition
Scientists navigating an unexpected career transition can use the resource to identify free mid-career tools and professional development opportunities, helping them clarify next steps and navigate a successful career transition with confidence. - Those seeking direction as a mid-career faculty member
For example, faculty navigating their post-tenure path can use Building a Thriving Physics Community to identify professional development opportunities and take actionable steps, or leverage APS's EP3 guide for strategies on being an effective department chair. - Teachers, professors, and practitioners seeking lesson plans for science or career development curricula
For example, faculty or teaching assistants can access biophysical or genetics lesson plans through BPS's or GSA's databases, or career exploration workshop/course lesson plans through pd|hub.
