Announcing Call for Submissions for New, NIGMS-Funded pd|hub Collections

Date Posted: Wednesday, June 23, 2021

pd|hub announces the Call for Submissions for the inaugural pd|hub Collection: a curated, peer-reviewed collection of evidence-based educational approaches tailored to support STEMM PhD students and postdocs in their career exploration.

Information sessions will be held via Zoom on July 9 (12-1pm ET) and July 14 (2-3pm ET) (download presentation slides; see FAQ).

The pd|hub Collections are a new, innovative framework designed to address challenges in the dissemination and adoption of evidence-based practices in graduate and postdoctoral education. The Collections framework will facilitate dissemination of effective practices in STEMM PhD career development by both (a) supporting adaptation and implementation of featured models by graduate/postdoctoral educators around the country, and (b) incentivizing, recognizing, and supporting the educators seeking to disseminate their work. The pd|hub Collections will feature nationally-sourced, peer-reviewed educational models, and will support implementation of these models through train-the-trainer workshops and mentored communities of practice. Implementation guides will highlight practices to enhance inclusion, equity, and access for learners from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from groups historically underrepresented or marginalized in STEMM. The pd|hub Collections will also provide educators with tools and guidance to support rigorous evaluation and assessment, empowering more efficient, data-driven evolution of educational approaches in the field. Our initial pd|hub Collections are funded by a 5-year Innovative Programs to Enhance Research Training (IPERT) award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

The first Collection, which will debut in 2022, will focus on career exploration for STEMM PhD students and postdocs. If you have developed a workshop, course, event, peer group, resource or other educational approach to support your STEMM PhD students’ or postdocs’ career exploration and you are interested in helping other educators adopt your educational approach, you are strongly encouraged to apply!  The pre-application process is  brief; deadline July 28 at 11:59 pm PT*.
